This year, I’ll join Open Studios at the Depozitory, organized by foalarts (artists Jo Hummell-Newell and Chris Jenkins):
Foal Arts is very excited to see new work on display for Depozitory Open Studios 2014 by acclaimed artist Marius Von Brasch. Marius has recently been awarded the Abbey Fellowship in Painting at the British School in Rome (Oct-Dec 2013).
In 2012, he completed a practice-based PhD in Fine Arts at Winchester School of Arts in 2012 where he also gained a MA with Distinction in Painting in 2009.
His practice engages with the axis between painting, mark making and the digital in drawing/painting/digital video. It juxtaposes the ‘hand-made’ and the ‘dispersed’ (digital media) and references frequently historical source images (for example alchemical book illuminations and, more recently, baroque paintings). There is a focus on the aspect of ‘Becoming’, of intuitive forces and conscious choices engaging with technology in making art. All the works deal with the subject of ‘re/presentation’ of places and moments where visible and invisible realities meet. Marius works from his studio in Rookely on the Isle of Wight and will exhibit as a guest artist at Depozitory Fri 25 July- Monday 28 July 10-5pm, Marius will show new digital collages and paintings.
